in communities that remain without power. amtrak will offer limited service between new york city and boston today. the new york city subway system is slowly coming back to life. the m-train, which links queens to manhattan actually started running. manhattan remains in the dark. with little mass transit folks are turning to their cars and you know what that means. lots of gas lines. they extend for miles. according to the most recent report from triple-a, of the gas stations it monitors roughly 60% of stations in new jersey and 70% on long island were closed thursday. both of new jersey's senators are now asking president obama for emergency fuel supplies. we do have a presidential campaign to cover. we are in the last 72, 96 hours if you will. the final chapter of the 2012 campaign is now begun and it all comes down, it apparently changed to ohio which president obama and governor romney, ready for this, are going to visit six separate times in the last four days of the break. today is the first day. president obama spends the entire day in ohio. he's got stops in springfield, lima, hillia

at mitt romney's head quarters in boston. nbc's ron allen outside city hall in new jersey. here in the northeast, of course more than 1 million homes and businesses remain without power and tomorrow night's anticipated nor'easter still on track to hit the same areas as sandy hit, those already displaced by the storm are bracing for yet another blow. more power outages potentially, more coastal flooding. here in new york city fema is considering bringing in trailers and prefab houses after the hurricane. katrina, more than 20,000 people are homeless. on the jersey shore homeowners working away at clearing out muddy water and sand that's enveloped their homes, all this as voting is getting under way and as we say ron allen is in hoboken new jersey outside city hall. let's talk about the cleanup and how it's affecting the voting, ron. >> well, the ta got off to a rough start in some places like here in hoboken, for example, there are instances of voting sites that didn't have power, that needed generators or they had generators, didn't have fuel. a similar situation out in staten i

in boston a week ago in defeat. today we finally heard from him. but i guess we wish we hadn't. the new york times reports on a 20-minute conference call he held today with his national finance committee. during the call he blamed the loss on president obama's gifts to minorities and young voters. the times says, quote, mr. romney said the president had followed the old playbook of wooing specific interest groups, especially the african-american community, the his panic community, and young people. mr. romney explained, with targeted gifts and initiatives. in each case they were very generous in what they gave to those groups, mr. romney said. our strategy worked well with many people. but for those who were given a specific gift, if you will, our strategy did not work terribly well. he thinks he lost because of so-called gifts? this shows just how clueless he is. joining me now is dr. james peterson, professor at lehigh university and a contributor to the grio.com. let's bring back in nia malika henderson of the washington post. thank you for joining me. >> thanks, rev. >> starting with you
